LWW - While they were exploring Professor Kirke's house, the four Pevensie children found an old wardrobe. Lucy stepped through this magical wardrobe into a land called Narnia. Here she met Mr. Tumnus the Faun, who was standing next to a lamppost in a snowy wood. Upon her return, Lucy found that no time had passed in our world even though she had been gone for hours. Her siblings did not believe her story until they all hid inside the wardrobe and Narnia appeared again. When kind Mr. Beaver mentioned the name "Aslan" for the first time, Lucy "got the feeling you have when you wake up in the morning and realize that it is the beginning of the holidays." The children later met Father Christmas, who presented Lucy with a dagger and a healing cordial. Lucy and her sister Susan followed Aslan the Lion to the Stone Table where they witnessed his death and resurrection. Lucy then helped to search the evil White Witch's house for stone statues so that Aslan could restore them to life. After the Battle of Beruna, Lucy used her cordial to heal her brother Edmund and many other wounded Narnians. During her reign at the castle of Cair Paravel, her people gave her the title Queen Lucy the Valiant.

PC - The sounding of Queen Susan's horn caused Lucy and her siblings to disappear magically from the platform of an English railway station and land, unknowingly, in Narnia. Lucy felt that there was "some wonderful mystery hanging over this place" and the children soon realised that they were in the ruins of Cair Paravel. Inside the ancient Treasure House, Lucy recovered her gifts and noticed that Susan's horn was missing. After meeting the Dwarf called Trumpkin and healing his arm with her cordial, Lucy rowed up Glasswater Creek with the Dwarf and her siblings to find Caspian. Lucy saw Aslan as they wandered through the Black Woods, but only Edmund believed her. She met the great Lion that same night and learnt that he was visible only to her. In time, Aslan became visible to everyone and they all saw that Lucy had been right. While the Pevensie boys and Trumpkin went to meet Caspian, Lucy stayed with Susan and Aslan and took part in a celebratory romp with the gods Bacchus and Silenus. The next day, the two girls rode on Aslan's back as he set Narnia to rights.

VDT - Lucy and Edmund were staying with their cousin Eustace for the holidays. While Lucy was discussing why she liked a picture of a ship that hung in her bedroom, the picture suddenly came to life and pulled the children into it. They climbed aboard the ship (called the Dawn Treader) and became reunited with King Caspian and Reepicheep the Mouse. Caspian had brought Lucy's cordial on this voyage from Narnia, and she used one drop to cure Eustace's seasickness. They landed on one of the Lone Islands, where Lucy was among those captured by the slaver Pug. Eustace later became a dragon and Lucy was the only person brave enough to approach him. She was the first person to see Aslan at Deathwater Island, and this caused Edmund and Caspian to forget their fierce dispute. At the Island of the Voices, the invisible creatures called Dufflepuds chose Lucy to go into a strange house and recite a visibility spell from a Magician's Book. When the children reached the end of the world, Aslan told Lucy and Edmund that they would not be coming back to Narnia, and that they must learn to know him in their own world.

HHB - Queen Lucy was among the archers during the battle against Prince Rabadash of Calormen at the castle of Anvard in Archenland - the neighbouring country and ally of Narnia. She was also responsible for making plans for the battle with King Edmund and Lord Peridan. After the battle, Lucy oversaw the preparation of apartments in Anvard for the Calormene girl Aravis. She and Aravis liked each other at once. After the trial of Rabadash, Lucy later told everyone the tale of how she and her siblings had first come into Narnia through the Wardrobe.

LB - Lucy was one of seven friends of Narnia whom King Tirian saw in a vision. She was sitting in an English train with her parents, Professor Kirke, "Aunt" Polly, Eustace, and Eustace's friend Jill, when a railway accident occurred. Lucy then met Tirian in yet another world inside a Narnian stable. She helped to explain the events that had occurred inside the stable while Tirian had been outside. She also tried to convince a group of miserable Dwarfs that they were not really in a dirty old stable. Lucy was moved to tears when night fell on Narnia and the stable door closed it off forever. She travelled "further up and further in" through the new world with the other friends of Narnia, and became reunited with Mr. Tumnus the Faun. We can truly say that she lived happily ever after.

Quotes:
"This must be a simply enormous wardrobe!" (LWW-1)
"You are the nicest faun I've ever met." (LWW-2)
"I think-I don't know-but I think I could be brave enough." (LWW-10)
"Oh, Trees, wake, wake, wake. Don't you remember it? Don't you remember me? Dyads and Hamadryads, come out, come to me." (PC-9)
"Aslan, Aslan, if ever you loved us at all, send us help now." (VDT-12)
"In our world too, a Stable once had something inside it that was bigger than our whole world." (LB-13)

Comments:Lucy stepped into the wardrobe simply because she loved the smell and feel of fur. Little did she know that this curiosity would lead her and her siblings to embark upon fantastic adventures. Lucy is known for her courage and unwavering trust in Aslan. We know that she had more individual encounters with Aslan than any other character in the Chronicles. Perhaps the most memorable encounter between them was when they were reunited in PC. Here, Lucy tells Aslan that she will do as he asks and convince the others to follow him, and the Lion tells her: "Now you are a lioness." In VDT, after reciting the spell to make things visible, she was surprised to see that Aslan had become visible behind her. Later, as an albatross led the Dawn Treader out of the horrors of the Dark Island, no one save Lucy heard it whisper "Courage, dear heart" in Aslan's voice.

Inspiration: It is likely that Lucy's name comes from C.S. Lewis's goddaughter, Lucy Barfield - to whom LWW is dedicated. However, the character was modeled after Jill Flewett (aka "June"), a girl who lived with Lewis for a while during World War II. Flewett worked hard at her chores, and Lewis and his brother soon grew to love her. She went on to study drama and become and actress, and remained friends with CS Lewis for the rest of his life.

"Georgie really is like Lucy, she’s like all innocent and she really is a little annoying at times" -Skandar Keynes
"That’s what I like the most about her is she’s like me a lot" - Georgie Henley
"Georgie Henley was just um, I knew from the moment I saw her tape that she was Lucy and I had looked at a lot of children by that stage. It was a moment where she was just so believable in her very first audition. She really takes on the role, she feels the character and she just goes with it. So to direct she’s incredible, she just this imaginative, funny, the wittiest nine year old I’ve ever met and just all those things I wanted Lucy to be." ~ Andrew Adamson
