LWW - Peter, the eldest, was sent away to Professor Kirke's house with his three siblings. It was his idea to explore the house, and that was how the adventures began. He (along with the others) did not initially believe Lucy's story that she had gotten into another world through the wardrobe, and wondered if there might be something wrong with Lucy. Peter was as excited as anyone when he first stepped through the wardrobe and into Narnia. When he heard Aslan's name for the first time, Peter felt suddenly brave and adventurous. On their way to the Stone Table, he received a sword (later called "Rhindon") and a shield from Father Christmas. When they reached the Stone Table, Peter was the first to approach Aslan. Then Aslan took him aside and showed him Cair Paravel and told him that he would be the High King over his siblings. Seconds later, they heard Susan's horn and Peter rushed down and killed Maugrim the wolf. And there, Aslan named him Sir Peter Wolf's-Bane. The idea that Aslan might not be with him at the battle came as a shock to Peter. But he led the Narnians against the White Witch's army in the first Battle of Beruna and fought the Witch herself. During his reign at Cair Paravel, he was called King Peter the Magnificent.

PC - Peter and his siblings were pulled off an English Railway platform and into Narnia when Caspian sounded Queen Susan's horn. Once there, Peter was the one who finally put it all together and deduced that they were in the ruins of Cair Paravel. Peter's theory was confirmed when they discovered the Ancient Treasure Chamber, where he recovered the gifts he received from Father Christmas. After Trumpkin finished his story, Peter led his siblings and the dwarf across Glasswater and through the Black Woods. Peter did not initially believe Lucy's claim that she had seen Aslan, and his vote decided that they would not go towards where Lucy claimed to have seen the lion. However, the next night, Peter and the others woke up and followed Lucy, and, following the lion, she led them to Aslan's how. After introducing himself to Caspian, Peter had the idea to send Miraz a challenge to single combat. Miraz accepted the challenge, and Peter fought Miraz for Narnia. Peter led the Old Narnians against the Telmarines in the second Battle of Beruna. Before Aslan sent them home, Peter and Susan were told that they would not be coming back to Narnia because they were too old.

LB - Peter was in the room with the other friends of Narnia when King Tirian suddenly appeared to them. Peter tried to speak to him, but Tirian faded away before he could respond. They all sensed that something was up, and decided to recover the magic rings so that Eustace and Jill could go back to Narnia. Peter and Edmund went to Digory's old house in London and, dressed as workmen in case anyone noticed them, dug up the rings. Peter then sent a message to Eustace and Jill telling them to meet him so he could hand over the rings. But as their train was approaching, Peter noticed that the train seemed to be taking the bend too fast. Then there was a frightful roar and Peter and the other friends of Narnia found themselves in another world. High King Peter witnessed the death of Shift, and was there to welcome Tirian as he flung himself through the stable door. After night fell on Narnia, Aslan asked Peter to close the door. Peter went "further up and further in" with the others. We can truly say that he lived happily ever after.

Quotes:
"But do you really mean, sir, that there oculd be other worlds - all over the place, just around the corner - like that?" (LWW-5)
"I'm longing to see him even if I do feel frightened when it comes to the point." (LWW-8)
"It is my sword Rhindon. With it I killed the Wolf." (PC-2)
"I haven't come to take your place, you know, but to put you into it." (PC-12)
"Begone, Monster, and take your lawful prey to your own place: in the name of Aslan and Aslan's great Father the Emperor-over-the-Sea." (LB-12)

Comments: Peter is the eldest and High King of the four Pevensies. When they first arrived at Professor Kirke's house, Peter was excited and wanted to explore the grounds. But the next day, a steady rain was falling. So Peter decided to explore the house, and the others agreed (and that was how the adventures began). After the hide-and-seek game, Peter became angry with Edmund for playing games with Lucy about her "imaginary" country (even though we know of course that she was telling the truth). This was only the beginning of tension between these two brothers. After a surprising conversation with Professor Kirke, Peter saw to it that Edmund stopped jeering at Lucy. When they all discovered that Lucy had been telling the truth, Peter turned on Edmund and called him a "poisonous little beast." Peter later expressed his guilt to Aslan after Edmund's betrayal, saying "That was partly my fault, Aslan. I was angry with him and I think that helped him to go wrong." In fact, it's interesting to note that in both LWW and PC, Peter confessed something he had done wrong to Aslan in their first meeting. In PC, when Aslan finally became visible to all the Pevensies and Trumpkin, Peter dropped to his knees and said "Oh, Aslan, I'm so glad. And I'm so sorry. I've been leading them wrong ever since we started and especially yesterday morning."
